Update in Hereditary Amyloidosis by Transiterina ( ATTR - FAP )

PAF-TTR (or Andrade's disease) is a rare, inherited disease that causes progressive degeneration of the nervous system. People with PAF-TTR mutate the TTR gene that can lead to the production of abnormal and unstable forms of transthyretin protein. These abnormal proteins can collect and form threadlike structures called amyloid fibrils. This amyloid fibrils may be deposited in a specific portion of the nervous system or peripheral nervous denominated in other parts of the body such as the heart system, kidneys and eyes. These deposits may affect organ function and cause the appearance of various symptoms. Andrade's disease is irreversible, progressive and fatal. The first symptoms of TTR-FAP are paresthesia, pain or trophic foot injuries, gastrointestinal disorders and weight loss. In later stages, the most pronounced sensory loss involves pain and changes in the thermal sensation. In severe stages, a complete motor loss occurs. Often the PAF-TTR misdiagnosed and mistaken for other diseases because its symptoms are similar to those of other conditions that affect the peripheral nervous system. This complete course is for the specialties of Cardiology, Hematology, Internal Medicine, Nephrology and Neurology provider and anyone who is interested in learning more about the disease.
